Baha'i Reform Proposals

The following points were made in The Book of Restoration: Nineteen Points for the Reform of the Baha'i Faith, by Eric Stetson. They constitute the basis of the mission of the Alliance for the Reform of the Baha'i Faith (now defunct).
  1. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall grant members the freedom of speech and of the press.

  2. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall grant members the freedom of association.

  3. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall grant members the freedom of information.

  4. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall grant members and congregations the freedom to teach the faith and to offer community Feast in all lands.

  5. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall grant congregations the freedom to form the Local House of Justice and to build houses of worship.

  6. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall eliminate all political advocacy by the Baha'i institutions.

  7. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall repudiate the doctrine of one world government directed by the Baha'i institutions.

  8. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that there is no currently existing institution with the authority to officially interpret the meaning of scripture.

  9. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that there is no currently existing institution with the authority to exclusively collect offerings of Huquq'ullah.

  10. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that there is no currently existing institution with the authority to expel a person from the faith or to declare a person to be a Covenant-breaker.

  11. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that there is no currently existing institution with the authority to impeach and remove a member of the Universal House of Justice.

  12. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that it is not infallible, because it is lacking the guidance of the Guardian.

  13. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that the Baha'i institutional order is bereft of its Learned Branch, and that the Continental Board of Counselors and their Auxiliary Boards constitute an entirely different institution which must not be regarded as the Learned.

  14. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that the World Order of Baha'ullah cannot legitimately exist until the coming of the next independent manifestation of God after the year 1000 of the Bahai Era.

  15. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall recognize that there cannot currently be a Universal House of Justice established and operating according to Bahai scripture and its authorized interpretation; and the body now called the "Universal House of Justice" shall therefore be renamed the International Spiritual Assembly, and shall renounce the title "Head of the Faith."

  16. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall allow women to be elected to serve as members of such body, because the prohibition of their election is only ordained for the Universal House of Justice.

  17. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall establish a system of Baha'i courts, and shall not remove the rights of any member without providing a fair trial.

  18. The international ruling body of the Baha'i World Faith shall renounce the false covenant created by the Hands of the Cause and perpetuated by their own body; shall repudiate the worldliness and the reverence for bureaucracy that have been prevalent in Baha'i institutions and communities since the passing of the Guardian; shall apologize for the injustices they have inflicted upon believers in the name of God; and shall invite all who call themselves Bahai to unite as the members of a purified, rectified, reformed and restored Baha'i Faith.

  19. The leaders of the "Orthodox Baha'i Faith," the "Baha'is Under the Provisions of the Covenant," and any other Bahai splinter group based upon the notion of a second guardian, shall renounce the false covenant created by Hand of the Cause Charles Mason Remey and perpetuated by themselves; shall apologize for devoting themselves to an idle and vain sectarianism; and shall join the Alliance for the Reform of the Baha'i Faith in an effort to educate, inspire, and reunite all the believers in the Cause of God.
